Word Wednesday: “in quietness and trust is your strength”

Luke  8_17

Have you ever been wronged or offended?

I think if we were honest, we can all say that we have.

I recently had a situation where i was wronged.

Then, someone i cared about and thought was my friend stood up for the person who wronged me. Not only did they stand up for them {which honestly, i understood because of their relationship to that person at the time} , but they took to social media to say something negative about me. They didn’t post my name, but it was 100%  directed toward me.

Can i just be honest? IT HURT. I cried over it. I wish I was one of those people who just didn’t care what people think. But I do. I care deeply about what people i call friends think of me. I care about my character. I care that people I trust know they can trust me in return.

Seeing this person could not be avoided. We were in the same social circle at the time. I had to face them. And can i tell you, every time i saw that person, my stomach was sick. I wanted so badly to tell them the truth. To confront them. To tell me their words hurt. To ask them if they even knew what had really happened? To tell them my side of the story. To tell them that i wasn’t the kind of person that had alluded to on social media. That i was a true friend. I was the one who had been wronged. But every time i thought about mustering up the strength to confront them, i felt the Holy Spirit telling me to be quiet.It was confirmed in a message from Priscilla Shirer. She actually said the words “you need only to be quiet.” HE would come to my rescue. He would prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies {Psalm 23:5}  and he would bring what was hidden to darkness to the light {Luke 8:17}.

Months later, the hidden things were brought to light. The truth of what had really happened came out, and that person apologized. I was SO relieved. I felt justified. I felt OVER JOYED.

Obedience and waiting on the Lord can be so difficult. It can seem so irrational. But Only God can reveal the true hearts of men. Nothing is hidden before Him.

This is just my story. This isn’t for everyone. But my prayer is that before you go to defend yourself when you are wronged, seek God. Often God does want us to confront situations and talk through things, but other times, we need to simply be quiet and HE will bring what is hidden to light. HE ALWAYS DOES.

Women of Faith Recap

WARNING: SUPER LONG POST BELOW. I pray you get at least one nugget of Gold after my scrambled attempt to share with you the things God impressed upon me at women of faith. I pray that somehow God makes sense out of this all. If you have time, read the scripture references as well. I pray that you are blessed. }

If you only get one thing out of the below, I pray it is this word from Christine Caine: “FAVOR IS FOR SERVICE NOT STATUS.” We live in a world of Christian celebrity and we need less celebrity and more service.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend women of faith. There was confirmation after confirmation that I was supposed to attend this event.

My dear friend Heather, author of Now While You’re Single: Walking Out Your Purpose Before You Say ‘I Do’, invited me. Her sister had received several tickets from her husband for her birthday, and she had an extra! I asked RyRo and he said yes. When I found out it was at Lakewood Church, I told Heather that I knew exactly where we had to sit….where Ryan and I sit every Sunday! She told me she would let her sister know. Well turns out, the seats were reserved, but you WILL NOT BELIEVE, that our reserved seats were in the EXACT Section where Ryan and I sit every Sunday. Like are you kidding me right? Out of the thousands of seats we could have gotten, they were our exact section. And turns out they were only one row up from our usual row. Needless to say, I felt right at home.

There were fiver speakers: Priscilla Shirer, Charlotte Gambill, Lisa Harper, Sheila Walsh, and Christine Caine.

I honestly had no idea what to expect. I had never been to a women of faith conference before.

I just wanted to share with you some of my favorite key points from each speaker, and also the verses they shared. Through the weekend we talked about different women from the Bible. We learned more about them which was VERY fascinating and saw how they were just like us. Separated by thousands of years, but still at our core, very much the same.

Sheila Walsh

Women of the Bible: The Samaritan Women at the Well

Scripture Reference: John 4:1-26 (NLT)

Facts I learned about her:

  • Most Commentaries agree she was probably barren {which could explain why she was married 5 times. Being barren was considered to be a curse, and your husband could just leave you.}
  • Her name was Photini {Pronounced: Foe-Teeny}. It means “The Enlightened One.”
  • Photini would visit the well at the 6 Hour {Noon}. Sheila explained that this was VERY uncommon. Most women of that day would go EARLY in the morning to avoid the heat from the sun. But likely, Photini was ashamed of her past and didn’t want to have to look at anyone or be looked at herself. So rather than go to the well in the coolness of the morning, she would go in the middle of the day where she was likely to be alone.

Favorite Points from this Message:

  • Do not allow anyone in the body of Christ to shame you because of your past.
  • When Jesus says to her in John 4:16-18: 16 {“Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. 17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”} He was not shaming her. He was saying to her, I KNOW YOUR STORY. I UNDERSTAND. I SEE YOU.
  • Psalm 56:8 says: “You keep track of all my sorrows.  You have collected all my tears in your bottle.  You have recorded each one in your book.” {Not ONE tear we have cried EVERY FALLS TO THE GROUND.” God knows each one the Bible Says}
  • The Good News can never be good news unless we realize that Jesus knows all the bad news. He knows our WHOLE story {even the hidden parts} and He still loves us
  • “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.” (V. 23) – TRUTH “Aletheia” literally means “Hiding Nothing.”
  • A Transformed life changes the way you see others. {The woman immediately RAN to the people she couldn’t face to tell them about Jesus.}

 Charlotte Gambill

Women of the Bible: the Shunammite woman

Scripture Reference: 2 Kings 4: 8-37

Favorite Points from this Message:

  • Doorways, Hallways, and Gateways & {Hallway Rules}
  • Doorway: {15 “Call her in,” said Elisha. He called her and she stood at the open door.16 Elisha said to her, “This time next year you’re going to be nursing an infant son.”} Every doorway leads to a hallway. Get in the doorway of a new dream, a new possibility.
  • Hallway Rule 1. You are not allowed to take your baggage with you into the hallway. {21 She took him up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut him in alone, and left.} She left her baggage at the place of promise and left it at home. Then she saddled up her donkey. This dream was not possible until God gave it to her.
  • If you are in a Hallway, get back in the saddle and DON’T SLOW DOWN. {24-25 She went ahead and saddled the donkey, ordering her servant, “Take the lead—and go as fast as you can; I’ll tell you if you’re going too fast.”} If you find yourself in a hallway, DON’T BACK UP. GET UP AND DON’T SIT DOWN.
  • Hallway Rule 2: No talking in the hallway. {25-26 The Holy Man, spotting her while she was still a long way off, said to his servant Gehazi, “Look out there; why, it’s the Shunammite woman! Quickly now. Ask her, ‘Is something wrong? Are you all right? Your husband? Your child?’” She said, “Everything’s fine.”}
    • Be Careful what you say in the hallway
    • Be careful who you stop and talk to when you are in transition because there are people that don’t want you to get where you are going. Just say “I’m Fine.” AND KEEP MOVING
  • God is NOT afraid of YOUR feelings. Take your burden to Him. God will teach you in the Hallway, the things getting voiced in your doorway.
  • Gateways 2 Kings 8 we revisit this woman 7 Years later. { 6 The king wanted to know all about it, and so she told him the story. The king assigned an officer to take care of her, saying, “Make sure she gets everything back that’s hers, plus all profits from the farm from the time she left until now.”}
  • God took called her to a doorway, gave her a promise, carried her through the hallway {taught her lessons along the way}, and then delivered her to a gateway, a place of provision.
  • It is in the hallway that we find ourselves. GOD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN US. He will walk the HALLWAYS with you

{This was hard to translate into points, it was one of those you had to be there moments, BUT I hope that I did it justice. I have been hearing WORD AFTER WORD about doorways and being in them. I am at the door, and I feel like God is about to bring me through a hallway. I haven’t gone through the door yet to my hallway, which is going to lead to my gateway, but I am right on the verge. I can feel it}

Lisa Harper

Women of the Bible: The Midwives in Exodus 1:8-22

What I learned about them:

  • They were likely Egyptian
  • They were likely Barren

Favorite Points from this message:

  • Risk Leads to Reward. {These midwives risked death for not obeying Pharaoh but since they honored God, he gave them children.
  • What are we willing to risk to give birth to something big?
  • Obedience leads to blessing

Priscilla Shirer

Woman of the Bible: Widow at Zarephath 1 Kings 1:7-24

Favorite Points from this Message:

  • Sign of a Mature believer is one who is willing to pray uncomfortable prayers
  • The enemy wants us to be crippled by our lack that we never put into our hands the blessing that could bless others.
  • We don’t need more, what we need is the favor of God on what we have
  • Pray: God give me the privilege to be the answer to someone else’s blessing.
  • Don’t be crippled by what you don’t have
  • God has already gone before me
  • We keep trying to rationalize the thoughts of God and we rationalize ourselves out of obedience.
  • We must be willing to go to an uncomfortable place {This is what I feel this entire transition has been for me—an uncomfortable place}

Christine Caine

Woman of the Bible: Mary, the mother of Jesus

Favorite Points from this Message:

  • Bible Study is NOT for entertainment but for Transformation
  • We are not on a cruise ship in this life, we are on a battleship
  • God will use anyone who is willing to be interrupted.
  • It has a lot less to do with us and MORE to do with Jesus.
  • The main purpose of our existence is to GO and MAKE DISCIPLES.
  • We must be looking forward to Jesus coming again.
  • WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVANGELIZING THE WORLD and taking as many people to heaven with us as possible.
  • Mary was a young girl who had a real heart after God. She wasn’t surprised to see the angel at all, she was surprised by how the angel greeted her {I never thought of it this way at all.}
  • Mary was willing to be interrupted
  • Whatever gifts God has given me are for service not status {AMEN}

In honor of International Women’s Day, i encourage all the women in my life and all the women who stumble upon my blog: LET’S BE KIND. LET’S BUILD EACH OTHER UP. LET’S ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF OURSELVES INSTEAD OF BEING A COPY OF SOMEONE ELSE. LET’S POINT OUT EACH OTHERS STRENGTHS. Most women know our weaknesses. We know the things we don’t like about ourselves. We don’t need those things to be pointed out. We need other women to come alongside us. Who are you empowering and encouraging? Take some time to encourage a woman in your life who has made an impact. Spread the love everyday but especially today!

Houston Bucket List: The Hobby Center for Performing Arts

On January 23, 2015 RyRo and I along with two of our MOST FAB H-Town Friends, attended The Book of Mormon at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts.

If your Mormon and easily offended, this is NOT the show for you. But it was quite amusing for us. I was honestly SO sleepy. And it was SO warm in there, so i could barely keep my eyes open (snooze fest, i know), but the parts I saw were VERY funny. The performers were SO talented, and had the most amazing voices.

The Hobby Center itself is just architecturally so beautiful. The details on the inside were SO above and beyond gorgeous. We were literally rushing in to see the show and rushing out to catch out UBER, so I didn’t have much time to take pictures inside, but I am so glad that i got to soak it all in!

Thanks Allie for getting this super neat shot of RyRo and I walking! So Houston.

Cheers to crossin’ em’ off,

I am LOVING the jogger pant trend, so when i found this babies at Nordstrom Rack, i had to snatch them up. Joggers are SO versatile. You can dress them up with a blouse like i’ve done here, or you can throw on a graphic tee and some sneaker wedges and hit the road! These are Vince Camuto and have a great zipper detail and they are honestly SOOOOO comfortable.

This Altuzarra for Target blouse is one of my favorite pieces. This style of blouse is so classy and timeless, and a fun print is ALWAYS in style!

Two ideas on how to re-create this look are below! Be sure and #poshpants and show me how you wear your joggers!

Word Wednesday: What are you waiting for?

2 Thess 3 16

This morning and for the past several mornings/days, i have found myself plagued with worry. Worry over whether or not our house will sell quickly. Whether or not it will sell at all.

I am literally paralyzed sometimes by the fear that I will continually have to live in an RV in the middle of nowhere, and that my gorgeous furniture will be sitting in a beautiful house that i once called home………..without me.

One particular morning several weeks ago, I was in the shower, and worry just hit me like a ton of bricks. I know that I shouldn’t worry. I know that God has it under control, I know all the right things to think and feel, but it still doesn’t make it any easier.

I was reminded of this promise in church the weekend before. Our Pastor, Victoria, was literally speaking directly to Ryan and I. She was talking about “waiting well.” She expounded upon the fact that life is a waiting game. We are always waiting for something. Waiting to graduate high school, waiting to go to college, waiting for summer, waiting for a job (or to change jobs), waiting for a husband/wife, waiting for a wedding, waiting for a baby….the list goes on and on.

The waiting game is inevitable.

Pastor Victoria encouraged us with this, that we will get to the place God wants us to be. We need to live and enjoy life, while we wait. Develop ourselves while we wait {Which is such an interesting thing for her to say, because one of my dearest friends, told me this same thing the week prior. She said, what is God trying to teach you during this time of waiting? Talk about WOW.}.

So, with that being said, I am asking God to show me the reasons that he has us in this waiting game? Maybe He will, maybe He won’t. I just won’t know for sure.

I am learning to be THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for the tremendous blessings in my life. I am thankful my Dad has this camper that we can live in. The RV park is far, but not that far, and It’s so peaceful. It only takes me like 20 minutes to clean the whole thing. I mean, can someone shout Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am thankful to even have a house. I am thankful to even have the opportunity to buy a new house. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful that I am not separated from my husband by thousands of miles.

I am learning to focus on the many blessings in front of me, instead of the mole hill that I am turning into a mountain.

So, what are you waiting for?

Take that thing and lay it at the feet of Jesus. And like Pastor Victoria says, “the sooner we learn to wait well, the better off we’ll be.”

Wait Well Dear Friend.

ALASKA TRAVEL ESSENTIALS I consider myself somewhat of a self-proclaimed AK Travel Expert. I have been there a total of four times (Including the trip I am on now). My sister lives there, so I am not that special, but it is pretty awesome to have a sister who lives in such a unique location.

These are some of my go-to essentials for the stylish gal! Thankfully, i don’t have to dress practically because my sister just gives me cloths and boots galore. So, if you are really traveling to AK, you might not be able to travel this light, but these are definitely some carry-on essentials that i can’t travel without!

True Story: She has a cabin that you can only get to by airplane or snow mobile. Luckily, she has an airplane, so i am actually getting to go there this week. There is NO plumbing, so i have to use an out house. If you know anything about me, you know this is a major stretch for Fancy. I didn’t make it up to the cabin this time, but am looking forward to going out there on my next visit!

Shop the Post:

This Stella and Dot Get-a-Way bag is my go-to carry on. It actually unzips at the bottom and gets SUPER HUGE, but i have had mine for three years and it is still in great shape! I highly recommend it if you are looking for a stylish carry-on that is functional.

This is my go-to piece of jewelry for AK. I have this piece in silver and it says AMRO (For Amy and RyRo). LOVE this engrave-able bar from Stella and Dot!

A good read is a MUST. The flight is 10 Hours long from Houston. I haven’t read this yet but can not wait to purchase it and read it!

UGGs are the way to go. They are SO warm and comfy. I don’t own any BUT my sister has this pair, and i borrow them while i am there. They are like walking on clouds. Pure Heaven.

These are my go-to pants. I layer them with long johns underneath, but they are so comfortable and comfort is a MUST in AK.

Baby Lips lip balm is a life saver. It makes your lips feel SOOOOO smooth and warm. I am so glad my friend introduced me to this last year. It is literally a MUST HAVE that i always carry in my purse now.

Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes are the best.They leave you feeling refreshed especially when you are roughing it in the Alaskan wild!

Get in the spirit of the Alaskan Aurora  with these gorgeous Elle Earrings from Kendra Scott. They are perfection and add a touch of glam to your outfit without being too much. I have the tinier version of these which i plan on wearing, but these are just too gorgeous not to pack.

A warm hat is a MUST. With temps in the teens and below, you have to keep those ears and head warm!!!! This hat is just too cute. Thankfully, i don’t have to bring hardly anything with me. My sister pretty much outfits me.

A cute plane outfit is a must. This time, i wore this amazing sweater and my Yoga Leggings with my Kendra Scott Earrings and some snow boots! Comfort and style are everything. And this sweater was too awesome not to wear on my flight.

A stylish, functional set of headphones. The DIGI Players that you can purchase on the plane that have movies are my lifesaver. These headphones are the perfect addition to any outfit.

My Aunt got me the most amazing necklace from The Honey Comb! The necklace opens like a locket and inside is a tiny piece of leather for you to drop you oils onto. I dropped a few drops of peppermint on it the day i got it, and for several days after, i could still smell it! Who needs perfume when you can smell like lavender!!??

My Aunt and her friend Lisa came to visit me a few weeks ago, and as a thank you for staying at my house, Lisa sent me the Peppermint Oil from Young Living! I haven’t bought any oils yet, but one day i want to get the diffuser and some different oils to use at home!

I have headaches off and on and this peppermint oil heals them almost instantly. So when she sent this to me in the mail, i was THRILLED. i still haven’t sent a thank you note, {so tacky}, but thank you Ms. Lisa! It really meant the world. {For the record, all of my thank you not writing materials are packed away…so…i hope i get a pass in this season of life. If you send me a gift, i love you dearly, and am writing thank you notes in my heart.}
